Wonderful old piece of family history for Thomas Castlow (Costlow, Lastlow) for his intention to become a US citizen. Inside of document reads “In pursuance of the Acts of Congress I such case made and provided, Thomas Castlow a free white person, and alien friend, desirous of being naturalized, makes report and registry of himself as follows:” A table is filled out that states his name, birthplace (County Galway, Ireland), Age (25 years), Nation. (Irish) Allegiance (Queen Victoria), Whence He Emigrated (Liverpool, February 1846), Time of Arrival U.S. (New York, April 156h, 1846), and Intended Place Settlement (Pennsylvania). Sworn and filed with the court on January 19th, 1849. Document goes on to say “Thomas Castlow being duly sworn doth declare and say that it is bona fide his intention to become a Citizen of the United States, and to renounce forever, all allegiance and fidelity, to any foreign Prince, Potentate, State or Sovereignty whatever, and particularly the Sovereign Queen Victoria of Great Britain & Ireland of whom he is now a subject.
