Neat 107 year old (Winfield, Kansas, May 16, 1902) Certificate of Promotion from Winfield Public School for Minnie Eley stating that she “has done creditable work, passed the required examinations, and is promoted to the Senior Year Grade of the High School Department.” She had no “conditions.” It also does go on to state that “This card must be presented within four weeks after the opening of next school year in order to be valid.” I wonder what happened if you lost your card? Can’t imagine this school was too large, but seem to be mighty serious… This was signed by S.C. Bloss, Principal. Size is approx 5,5 inches by 3.25 inches. Shipping and handling will be an additional $3. Paypal, money order and personal check happily accepted. If you purchase this heirloom, I ask that you allow me the privilege to leave this posted in the Show-and-Tell posting section (not-4-sale) for others to reference and enjoy. Thank you very much!

Incredible for a 107 year old piece of ephemera. Cover says Souvenir, 1903 and appears to have the photo of the teacher. Pages inside list School District Number Four, Union TP, Marshall Co., Indiana, September 22-1902 – April 10, 1903. Presented by Grace A. Zechiel (Teacher). School Officers are listed as G.D. Marks (Supt), A.N. Bogardus (Trustee) and A.R. Sturgeon (Director). Another page lists the pupils as: Eighth Grade: Chester McFeely, Hollis Mattix, Nellie Baker and Hurvey McGowan. Seventh Grade: Laura Hissong, Harrison Baker, Charles Cooper, Earl Overmyer, Ladye McFeely and Faye Baker. Sixth Grade: Fred Washburn, Ross Baker, Ora Overmyer, Gladys Brooke, Emma Hissong and Ruth McFeely. Fifth Grade: Myrtle Banks, Mamie Washburn and Vera Brooke. Third Grade: Ethel McFeely, Frank Bumbarger and Bertha Washburn. Second Grade: Clyde Thomas, Edgar Shaw, Elsie Washburn, Nellie Walker, Vivian Brooke, Nina Sturgeon, Floyd Thomas and Welcome Brooke. First Grade: Blanche Overmyer, Neil Shaw and Hallie Walker. This was published by the F.A. Owen Pub. Co. out of Dansville NY.

Wow, lots of the same last names (as well as unique first names). The two with the names Hissong are marked in pencil and this booklet may have been owned by them. Must have been a small school serving a small community and the one teacher may have been responsible for first through eighth grades (yikes). Interesting piece of history in incredible condition. Size is approx 4 inches by 6 inches and total piece is 4 pages of paper with three of them marked. Shipping and handling will be an additional $4. Paypal, money order and personal check happily accepted. If you purchase this heirloom, I ask that you allow me the privilege to leave this posted in the Show-and-Tell posting section (not-4-sale) for others to reference and enjoy. Thank you very much!

Neat old report card (with Certificate for Promotion to the third grade) for Wanda Engle for the Second Grade from Bricktown, Mahoning County Public Schools. C.C. Engle was the parent who signed the card, Charles Evans was the signed teacher and F.V. Dennis is the Supt. Princ. (stamped signature). Interesting how serious a process this appeared to be. Card was “to be issued on Wednesday following the close of each six weeks.” Inside of card lists her grades and also has a few funny checks by “Whispers Too Much” for four of the six weeks… Back of card gives some serious notes for the parents to read (see photo). The opened size of the bi-fold is approx 7.5 inches by 6.5 inches. Shipping and handling will be an additional $3. Paypal, money order and personal check happily accepted.
