Neat old IOU, or other business transaction document, for $50 to M.E. Harvey from E. Haines. Basically states as handwritten, Concord Street Savings Bank, Pay to the order of M. E. Harvey, Fifty Dollars and charge to my account E. Haines. 2 Cent stamp is attached (tax stamp?). Interesting old piece of money exchange in the “good old days.” Size is approx 7 inches by 3 inches. 1891 Horse Trade Letter (North Carolina)

Interesting old piece of ephemera related to the trade and sale of horses dated March 24, 1891 from Lane Branch, NC. The very sincere letter reads (to the best of my ability to decipher the text… “Mr. D.W. Maser, Dear Sir, yours of 21st first to hand. This reply will say if your horse is a good saddle and harness horse I think we can trade if we can get together. I have three, or mare, choices to trade right here for good farm stock, but they do not suit me to ride and drive. I will let a man try my mare to his satisfaction. I like your horse’s appearance and sixe very well. My business is so that I can’t come to Liberty at present. And to set a day to meet you would be very uncertain as you know. So you come to my house the first opportunity and I think we will trade. Would be pleased to have you stay all night. Make your arrangements so that you will not be complelled to go back the same day. I will be at home or near by any day. Hoping to see you soon. Respectfully, W.R. Very old handwritten sales receipt. Receipt generally reads as follows: Hingham Jan 1, 1787. Receipt of Mr. Joseph Cushing (Cufhing) five dollars in full for a piece of land by his house containing two rods more or less. Bounded Westerly by … highway. Northerly with his wood yard and garden. Easterly and Southerly on my own land. I say received by me David Andrews. Paper was folded but still feels rather thick. Size is approx 3 inches by 7.25 inches. Early certification card stating: This is to certify that Mr. Howard Williams whose signature is written hereon is authorized to accept applications and countersign the certificate issued to the applicant of the San Francisco Exposition Tour Co. (General Selling Agents). Signed by Authorized Agent Lester D. Backer. Have to be honest in that it appears card was signed by the same person (look at the a and r)…hmmm, a dishonest salesperson, no way…(smile) Size is approx 2.5 inches by 4.5 inches. May 28, 1891 shipping receipt to James M Roy from the Cape Fear & Yadkin Valley Railway Co., Dr. in Liberty North Carolina. Payment was received by J A Moffitt – Agent (which is stamped). Shipping included a Buggy and accessories totaling more than 800 pounds. Shipping was only $2.31 (wow!). Size is approx. 3X8 inches. Receipt was and remains folded with few small tears. This is the Courts November 26, 1902 Original hand-written copy of the Legal Summons “and Notice for Money” between Robert J. Lewis and Alfred D. Brown (defendent). Attorney was Ryel (Ryal) Merrell. Appears that the sum of $94.82 was in question. Court is in Lourille (not sure of city – help please) in Lewis County, New York. Size is approx. 6X8 inches (when unfolded).
